It is November now, so it shouldn't be surprising that we are harvesting the last of most fruits and vegetables in our garden. On the contrary, it's surprising that things have lasted as long as they have! We have had a very temperate autumn thus far.

Earlier in the week I asked my son to pick me some apples. The only ones left in the tree were too high to reach, and I am not the tree-climber I once was. He came in with these beauties.
And then he said words that struck sadness in my soul, "That's pretty much all that's left."

Noooooooooooo!

So much for our try-a-different-apple-cake-every-week experiment. (Luckily, we now have enough pumpkin purée in the freezer to have a try-a-different-pumpkin-cake-every-week-until-you-never-want-to-see-another-pumpkin experiment).

Not being in the mood to bake that day, our afternoon snack was very simple, but Oh So Good! We cut the apples in wedges, finely chopped some walnuts, and melted some dark chocolate. Then we sat around dipping the apple pieces into the chocolate and nuts. YUM!

So that was the end of the apples. And today I pulled up the last of the carrots.
We'll have those for dinner Tuesday night.

And we have also picked the last of the tomatoes.
Some of them will be left on the windowsill to hopefully turn red, but most will be turned into this year's jar of Green Tomato Preserves.

So that was the last of the last. The vegetable plots and the fruit trees and the greenhouse are empty. I can't complain! We started harvesting rhubarb and radishes in May, and we've had something from the garden to eat from then until November. A fantastic season! Plus there is still a lot of goodness stored away in jars and in the freezer.

Best of all, the seeds are planted in the winter garden, so soon we'll be harvesting again! Yahoo!
